Nutritional tips and tricks

Ok so let's talk diet....

We all know that we must eat healthier and for some of us it is a daunting and difficult process.  You suddenly realize that your favorite snacks are now off limits!!  Or having to completely eliminate certain foods, drinks, or food habits.......

I felt that fear before, the familiar scary feeling that comes with telling myself "NO!' to soda,  ice cream, cookies, cakes, chips, and so many others.  What I have learned is that it is ok to ease into a change in your eating habits.

I started out by drinking my veggies in my Greens Smoothies, adding fruits, water and ice in the blender and viola all of my fruit and veggie servings are all taken care of.  Of course I still needed to learn better eating habits, so I began adding healthy supplements to my usual foods.  A good example of this is adding flaxseed or chia seeds to foods that I prepare, such as adding flaxseed to my pancakes.  I have added chia seeds to my salads, or even quinoa to my regular rice.  Small changes like that can cause new habits to form.  Keep feeding your body exactly what it needs and eventually you will crave less and less of those foods that cause more harm than good, such as sugar.

I post a ton of snaps of my cooking
I have also stopped using salad dressing, and opt for something lighter and healthier using limes with salt & pepper.  I have completely stopped using oils to fry my foods and instead use water to cook with vapor or steam.  When I do use oils to cook its either coconut oil or olive oil because of the higher content of Omega 3 "the good fat".  I cook more fish and use more avocados for the same reason.

Changing your diet doesn't have to be a scary thing, it doesn't have to be confusing, daunting, or happen all at once.  Subtle changes lead to more subtle changes and as long as you stick to it , then eventually you will see change in your body.  I hope this helps someone out there!!

  1. Great post!! This is really hard for me and I've been working so hard at it!! I'm a very picky eater, so it's hard for me to find combinations of healthy foods that I don't normally eat that work for me. But you're right! Subtle changes really do matter!! I also love the cooking with coconut oil tip- so healthy and so tasty! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love making smoothied because really I am horrible about eating enough fruits and vegetables. I am a pretty picky eater so sometimes it can be hard to get all the good stuff that I need. I have a few staples that I eat all the time to try and balance it out but I would eat pizza all the time if I could lol

    1. I LOVE pizza too!! I have found a pizza to be a useful tool when trying to feed my kids veggies. I found that if I hide spinach under tons of cheese and pepperoni they will eat it without crying about it. Try adding some veggies you don't normally eat in your pizza and add tons of cheese.
