What I have been up to lately
Ok guys so I haven't posted an article in quite sometime, since the first of the month to be exact....but I am so excited to let you guys know what I've been up to.
A day in my life consists of so many different factions, from being a mother of four to having a daughter with Dystonia. I have a passion for fashion, a love for makeup, and an affinity for psychology. However lately I have been indulging in a health and fitness craze and focusing a lot of my attention to the transformation of my body.
I started with supplements and I am slowly (emphasis on slowly) changing my eating habits. This triggered a chain reaction that spilled over into my children's lives. Now we look forward to eating a little cleaner adding more veggies, and cutting back on sweets and dairy. This was not easy.....by no means but it was necessary. My children were on a path to diabetes and obesity and that was unacceptable.
Visible change takes time and I'm committed to that cause now. At first I wasn't taking the fitness portion as seriously so when I started I began by taking a Yoga class with my daughter. Yoga helped to strengthen weakened muscles that I hadn't used in years, plus it was beneficial to her Dystonia symptoms. I started swimming with the kids as well, it's so much fun and hardly feels like exercise. I added water weights after awhile and that's when I really felt a difference in my muscles.
Sticking to the fitness routine was difficult to say the least, I started slacking and eventually quit going to the gym for a few months. I noticed a difference in my energy levels and knew that I needed to get back at it, and that proved to be much more difficult for me but eventually I went back.
Lately I have incorporated a more vigorous fitness routine into this change in nutrition. Granted it has only been two weeks since I've started but I feel so different already, and honestly that's what's important. I know that if I stick to it I will eventually see a difference as well, and that is my ultimate goal.
I've started to challenge myself more and for the last two
weeks I have been drinking a gallon of water everyday to help keep myself hydrated. I've also started lifting weights, which I've always wanted to do. I was so intimated by weight lifting so I took a Barbell Strength Training class at my local gym. This class is teaching me how to properly lift weights without hurting myself while giving me the best tips and tricks to benefit my body type.

I am going to track my progress and give you all of the tips that I am learning, it has only been two weeks for me so really the only thing I can share with you for now is that you should start with a low weight. I started with two 2.5 LB weights on either side of the barbell for warm ups and two 5 LB weights when it's time to go up a level. We do Dead Lifts, Lunges, and Clean and Presses....three exercises that are not too difficult but have maximum results.
I will keep you posted on my progress!!

I am impressed by your enthusiasm and passion. Great that you practice with children, you can motivate each other out :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for those words, I am so glad that the children are a part of this journey. It makes it easier for me, plus their support is so motivating.
