More Home Remedies

I found some really great info on home remedies  on the Molly Sims website that address different ailments from a common cough to headaches.  For example I didn't know that ginger is not only great in hot tea for colds but can also help to fight cancer!  She also explains how coconut oil is great for teeth and gums, I knew it was awesome for your hair but your teeth too?  Who knew...  Some tips & tricks to help with skin care that I also read on Molly Sims' website are as follows:

1. Use a Dedicated Face Towel- If the towel you are using to dry your face is the same towel used to dry your hair and body, you maybe transferring germs, bacteria, and oils from one place to another, increasing the possibility of clogged pores and irritated skin.  Use a hand towel dedicated to your face ONLY.  Molly recommends using a plain white one in order to monitor how much makeup and residue is left after cleansing.  If the towel has residual makeup try switching to a foamier makeup-remover or cleanser.

2.  Be Gentler-  When using your dedicated face towel blot your skin gently (pat dry) don't rub it on your face because the loops of a terrycloth can be rough and abrasive, especially if you have sensitive skin.

3.  Wash With Tepid Water-  While steaming the skin is great to open the pores and allow moisturizers and/or cleansers to deeply penetrate the skin, washing with hot water can dehydrate the skin and rob it of the oils that are beneficial to moisturize and protect the skin.  It can also trigger redness and inflammation, instead use lukewarm water to gently cleanse the skin.

While researching online I also found really great tricks on keeping your lips soft and pink (a sure sign of health and hydration).  I know that living up north can wreak havoc on the lips causing them to feel dry, cracked, and rough.  Using sugar and a bit of water you can exfoliate the lips to scrub away any dead dry skin (not to mention it tastes good...lol), another way to achieve this is to use your toothbrush.  After brushing your teeth and rinsing the toothbrush, use lukewarm water and gently brush the lips, this will keep them soft and supple.  Of course the best way to keep them hydrated is by drinking lots of water and using a moisturizing lip balm, be sure to use one with an SPF of at least 15 to protect the lips from the sun (which can also dry out and damage the lips).  I like to use Nivea A kiss of Moisture at night because the SPF is only 4, however I also use it on top of my Totally Balmed lip balm by Mark.  I love the light color of this lip balm and the SPF is 15 for daytime use, but I like the smoothness of the Nivea so I combine the two for optimal use.

I hope these tips will be helpful, and if you love (like I do) please leave a comment and let me know how they worked for you.  And hey let me know if they didn't work or if you have any other tips you'd like to share!!
