7 Day Diet Cleanse
As I've mentioned in my Facebook posts I have started a new diet that was passed on to me by a friend at the Head Start my kids attend. This diet has jump started my metabolism and has changed the way my body processes food. It has also changed the way I cook and eat for myself and my family as well. Even my husband has noticed changes in his body. I did not put the whole family on this diet, I just changed some of the menu for our meals. The diet is as follows:
Day 1
Eat as much fruit as possible, melons are best (NO BANANAS)
Now this day was the hardest for me!! I was hungry all the time, so I made fruit smoothies using unsweetened OJ, strawberries, honey dew, pineapples, and cantaloupe. That helped to fill me up. I also cut some avacados, tomatoes, used a pinch of salt and granulated garlic for flavor and a squeeze of lime and a spoon of olive oil as dressing. This would fill me up, unfortunately it wouldn't be long before I was hungry again, so I would eat more. You can also try fruit salads.
Day 2
Eat as much vegetables as possible, 1 large potato with butter. No beans, corn, or peas. Green veggies are best.
This day was easier for me because I love salads!! Raw spinach and lettuce with other veggies was good to me. I used the same "dressing" olive oil, squeeze of lime, pinch of salt and granulated garlic. I also took these veggies, added cabbage, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, and whatever else was good to me, threw it in a big pot with water and Knorr Caldo con sabor de Pollo, aka Chicken flavored Bouillon. This soup was really really filling! I was still getting hungry quickly, but this was my body's way of changing it's metabolism. I also started using the bathroom as soon as I was done eating, something I'd never been able to do before (sorry to gross you out, but it is a cleanse :P). When I got hungry I'd eat more soup and/or salad.
Day 3
Eat as much fruit & veggies as possible. NO POTATOES
For this day I stayed eating the foods from day 2 but combined the smoothies from day 1. By this time I noticed a boost in my energy levels, and my workouts were getting easier to do. I still had the same thing going on with the bathroom also (hahaha).
Day 4
Eat 8 bananas, 8 glasses of skim milk and 2-4 oz of chicken or fish through out the day.
I'll be honest...on this day I didn't follow the directions and paid the price with diarrhea (sorry to be gross again...but if you don't follow through it'll happen to you to). The bananas help to maintain the solidity of your bowel movements, and that's something I didn't even think about. Here's where the diet gets easier:
Day 5
Eat 10-12 oz of meat (Chicken or Beef), 8 tomatoes, veggies and 8 glasses of water. NO POTATOES
This day was easy for me although we have been trying to limit our red meat intake so I chose chicken. I still felt great, cleaner and more light weight. I don't have a scale so I don't know how many pounds I've lost. I do know that before the diet (about 2 days to be exact) I was weighed at the dentists office and I was 195. So I'll weigh myself again when I get a chance and let you all know the results.
Day 6
Eat as much meat (Chicken, Beef, or Fish) and veggies as possible. NO POTATOES
By this time eating more veggies in a variety of ways was becoming a habit. My husbands a cook so he knew how to mix it up for me from salads to soups to saute's.
Day 7
Eat as much brown rice and veggies as possible, NO POTATOES. Drink unsweetened fruit juices. Fried rice can be substituted for brown rice.
Again I strayed from the diet on this day sticking with the veggies and meats no rice, I did however add potatoes and that kept me from the horrid diarrhea that I had last time I cheated.
*NO ONIONS at all on eating plan as they cause you to retain water and bloat.
*Eat till you are content.
*Be creative for example day 2 can be a salad day, or a soup day like I did. Don't forget you can also steam your veggies!!
All in all this diet has changed my eating habits limiting my intake of rice to once or twice a week instead of daily. We have also limited our tortilla intake, my husband is Mexican and he can put away some corn tortillas, even he has slowed down on them. We have incorporated more veggies in all of our meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I feel great, more energetic and more clear minded. I have also quit Pepsi (that stuff is like liquid crack to me)!! I will keep everyone posted as to how much I've lost, but please keep in mind that I'm working out too, so that might have something to do with the amount of weight that I've lost.
Thanks to everyone that's helped to support me, my mom and husband, and especially my kids that kept reminding me that this diet was only for 7 days!!
Till next time......
